Ukraine
is a very specific country. It lies between the EU and Russia, between Europe
and Asia. Many young people dream about the civilized European future, while
the majority of retirees still lives in the Soviet Union. The difference
between the Western and the Eastern Ukraine is huge; however, people are ready
to find a common language. Ukraine is like its people – it differs a lot from
Lviv to Kharkiv, from Kiev to Odesa. You can find everything here – deserted
mountains, dense forests, sunny beaches, industrial cities and medieval
architecture. It is impossible to tell everything about interesting Ukrainian
places in a small article, but I will try.
Top Three Places to Visit in Ukraine
Here are three best places for traveling in Ukraine:
Verhovina.
This is a small city in the Ukrainian Carpathians. Growing tourists’ interest
to this region in the last few years hasn’t touched Verhovina. European and
American tourists prefer popular Yaremche and Bukovel resorts; while Verhovina
is much cheaper. You can find a cozy room here for $2-$4 per day, and you can
eat here like a feudal lord for $12 per day. Actually, I usually live in
Kruvorivnya – it is two kilometers from Verhovina and very deserted and
picturesque. Four famous hiking trails start here. Carpathian people are very
friendly and love tourists (most of them work in a tourism sector). However,
their English is often weak
Odesa.
This old sea town was the biggest smugglers center in the ninetieth century.
Actually, every third person here is a descendant of smugglers. At the same
time, Odesa was the first tax-free zone in the Russian Empire. In the ninetieth
century more than fifteen percent of all GDP of the Russian Empire was made by
Odesa. It is not surprising that this city is beautiful – smugglers have built
many beautiful buildings. Many clubs, restaurants and museums attract people
from all over the world. Prices here are very different – you can find a bed
here for $5-$8; however, some hotels are very expensive. Many people speak
English, especially young
Lviv.
If you want to get a piece of Old World – it is a right place for you. Medieval
center of the city is full of different interesting places – restaurants,
themed cafes, quest rooms and etcetera. You can easily live here for $25-$30
dollars per day, including food and even some drinking. If you get here, be
sure to visit the museum of coffee, and the museum of chocolate. Lviv “Zahid”
music festival is quite good and invites not only famous European and American
artists, but also ethnic Ukrainian bands.
Why You Should Visit Ukraine
The
above places are only a small piece of the interesting Ukrainian world. This
country is just starting to bloom. However, there are already many interesting
places to visit here. Ukrainian nature, music, and culture are much better than
Ukrainian politics. Give this country a chance and it will make you love their
people and cities.
